Several residents in Peartree have raised serious concerns over the past couple of years about the safety Spring rd/Station rd junction near the bottom of Spring road.
The Transport Planning team at the Council have now prepared a set of proposals to address this which I am grateful for!
Traffic speed analysis has indicated that speeding was not a contributory factor to the injury-accidents so speed control measures have not been proposed.
Skidding has been identified as the major factor and so the safety measures include installing an anti-skid surface at both ends of the junction on Spring road and improving the legibility of some of the street signs just before the junction.
It is also proposed to install lighting to clearly highlight the junction as well as widen the foot-way on the south-east junction arm in order to slow vehicles and to assist pedestrians to get across the road more safely.
Unfortunately the road is not wide enough to install a pedestrian refuge – this would have been my preferred choice.
Please do get in touch with me with your comments on whether you think these proposals go far enough and with any alternative proposals you may have.
