Along with my experienced colleague Alex Houghton, I am one of the Conservative Councillors for Peartree Ward in Southampton. I was elected on 3rd May 2018 with 1,725 votes representing 46.4% of the total votes cast.
As your representative, I am working hard for the people of Southampton to hold the Labour-run Council to account for their decisions and to make sure that everyone’s voice is heard in the places it matters most. I sit on the Overview and Scrutiny Management Committee and the Health Overview and Scrutiny Panel, and am also appointed a Council representative to the Southampton Voluntary Service.
Where I'm coming from
I grew up over on the beautiful Isle of Wight before moving to Southampton in 2011 to study Engineering at the University of Southampton. Since then, I’ve accumulated over 7 years experience working within the technology industry, through technical writing, software development, cyber security and patent law. I want to see Southampton become a vibrant hub for technological innovation.
In 2015, I agreed a deal with Imperial College Press to publish a textbook on programming for entrepreneurs. This was listed as one of ICPs ‘Notable Titles in Engineering’ in 2016 and has since helped hundreds of young entrepreneurs to develop their programming abilities.
In early 2017 I completed post-graduate studies in Intellectual Property law at Queen Mary, University of London and have spent three years helping innovative companies in the UK, Europe and worldwide make the most of their intellectual property assets.
As someone who believes in the importance of small business to the local economy, I have advised a range of tech startups based in Southampton and beyond. I have also authored articles and legal essays for a range of organisations, including Future Worlds, Inside Careers, Leonards Review, Activate UK and the CIPA Journal.
Most recently, alongside my job in software engineering, I have been undertaking post-graduate research towards my PhD at the University of Southampton by considering the impact of privacy and security on the evolving digital society and developing new ways to model online security.
